Overview
G.T. Container Services Inc. delivers from our Montréal yard across Quebec, Ontario and the Maritime provinces at a single published rate. Delivery is charged separately from the container price shown on a product page, and is added at checkout.
What delivery costs
Delivery is a flat $550 CAD to any address in Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island or Newfoundland and Labrador. It does not change with distance, container size or trailer type, and it is added automatically at checkout so you see the full total before you order.
The flat rate covers a standard tilt-bed delivery to an accessible, prepared site. The following are not included and are quoted separately if you need them:
- Crane or forklift placement where a tilt-bed cannot be used.
- Redelivery after a failed attempt (see below).
- Site preparation, foundations or ground works.
- Municipal permits, road closures or traffic management.
- Moving a container once it has been set down.
Applicable GST/QST or HST is added to both the container and the delivery charge, and is confirmed on the invoice we email you.
Outside our road-freight area
We deliver beyond these provinces on request, but not at the flat rate — those hauls are quoted individually. Contact us with your postal code before ordering and we will price it.
Multiple containers
Each container generally needs its own truck. If you are ordering more than one unit, contact us before checking out so we can confirm the delivery arrangement and cost for the full order.
Where we deliver and how long it takes
Typical delivery windows once payment has cleared:
| Region | Typical window |
|---|---|
| Greater Montréal | 2 – 4 business days |
| Rest of Quebec and eastern Ontario | 3 – 7 business days |
| Southern Ontario and New Brunswick | 5 – 10 business days |
| Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland | 7 – 14 business days |
Deliveries west of Ontario can be arranged on request but are quoted case by case. These windows are estimates, not guarantees. Winter weather, carrier availability, ferry schedules and municipal permits can extend a window. We will contact you if your delivery is going to move.
Preparing your site
You are responsible for making sure the delivery location is ready and accessible before the truck arrives. Please confirm the following:
- Clearance. For a tilt-bed delivery, allow roughly twice the container length of straight, level approach — about 60 ft (18 m) for a 20ft container and 100 ft (30 m) for a 40ft — plus at least 12 ft (3.7 m) of width and 15 ft (4.6 m) of overhead clearance.
- Ground conditions. The surface must be firm, reasonably level and able to carry a loaded truck. Soft ground, fresh gravel, mud, sand and unset asphalt are common causes of failed deliveries.
- Frost and thaw. This matters in Quebec. Ground that carries a truck in August may not in March, and a pad that was level before winter can shift with frost heave. Tell us if you are booking a delivery during the spring thaw so we can advise on timing.
- Foundation. We recommend railway ties, concrete blocks or a prepared pad at each corner to keep the container level and off wet ground.
- Snow clearing. Between November and April the approach and placement area must be cleared before the truck arrives. Drivers will not clear snow.
- Obstructions. Check for low branches, power lines, fences, gates, parked vehicles and utility covers along the route and at the placement point.
- Permits. Where a municipal permit or landlord approval is required to place a container, obtaining it is your responsibility. Requirements vary considerably between boroughs in Montréal.
On delivery day
Someone over 18 must be on site to direct placement and sign for the unit. Drivers will place the container in the position you indicate provided it is safe and legal to do so. Once a container is set down, moving it is a separate chargeable job.
Failed or delayed deliveries
If a driver arrives and cannot deliver because the site is inaccessible, unprepared, not cleared of snow, or nobody is present to receive the unit, a redelivery fee applies. That fee reflects the carrier’s charge for the wasted trip and will be confirmed to you before we rebook.
Inspecting your container
Please inspect the container before the driver leaves. Note any transit damage on the delivery paperwork and photograph it. Damage reported at the point of delivery is straightforward to resolve; damage reported days later is not.
